The Innocence of Youth – Episode 19

Recently we donated some extra large corrugated boxes to Miss Molnar’s 3rd grade class at Apollo Elementary School.  We figured Xbox, Lego’s and iPad’s are just too fancy for kids and they need to go old school again.

Just kidding!  Not really; I made the most awesome castle with a drawbridge and two turrets out of appliance boxes when I was little.  Anyway, these boxes were actually used for a project called Classroom City; whereby, each child got their own box to establish as their new business.  They got to pick their job and even sold items out of their new box “store front”.  I’m 37 and it sounds fun to me.

The kids wrote us letters to show their appreciation and they were great (take a look at some below).  If only we can preserve that optimism and innocence into adulthood.  I especially loved Cameron’s business…a temporary tattoo parlor.

Helping the surrounding community is part of our sustainability program and we love to do these kinds of things throughout the year.
